I live in Florida about halfway between tampa and fort myers. I am just wondering if anyone knows where I can catch pbass on the west coast of the state. I will gladly drive to ft myers naples or whatever down there but i dont want to cross the state unless i have to.

I live in Sarasota. The closest place you can catch them from where you are is alligator alley at the rest stops. If you want to make a day out of it you can drive down Tamiami and catch them when you get close to Miami. Alligator alley isn't bad for catching them, but the Miami area is the best.

thanks a lot.. how bout any other cichlids? i wanna try and catch some oscars.. maybe mayans.. i know theres mayans in lakes in sarasota i just need to find them haha

I've never heard of mayans around here, but i wouldn't be surprised if there were. Mayans are probably the most common invasive wild cichlid in florida. Let me know if u find out where they are. I love fishing for them.
I also heard that there are wild jack dempseys in manatee county but i don't know where.

i live in fort myers and u can get the oscars around here, if u head to lehigh n fish those channels there plenty there i could show u where at. Down in naples theres a few pbass spots but like her said miami area is best.

well naples/lehigh would be better for me.. i dont need to catch the biggest or strongest or most pbass i just have a goal of catching ONE right now lol.. after that my goal may change

My office is right by Tamiami and its chuck full of PB however due to this sick heat they are being caught fiurther up north in Florida in places not noramally found.

A friend caught some tiny 1 inch PB in minnow trap way further North Florida. They are usually not found that far North.

I caught this one during lunch today just to add a pic to the post lol .

They are the biggest sun worshipping fish you can imagine and its hot enough in the whole state to try canals by you.
