Has anyone ever used Flagstone as a decoration in their tanks? I was given a few pieces an one dropped and broke into a fewer smaller ones. Was going to use some of it in my 27g hex that I'm about to reset. Does any one see an issue with this?

It's safe. Leaches a little iron, but it's no big deal.

wait really? I'm actually wondering the same thing because I have a ton of it, and am trying to clean it for my tank right now. Most of it's got some redish coloring, and I'm a little worried about it. Ftech, make sure you scrub the hell out of it. I cleaned like 3-4 pieces and it was disgusting how nasty the water looked after I cleaned it. I put some in a bucket for a few days, and the ph didn't change from what it normally would be, so I think ph wise it should be safe

Same here I soaked them for hours with a drop of bleach in the water. Rinsed and scrubbed the hell out them, but what worries me is there was still a little bit of sand coming off of them. I 'm putting them outside in the suns tomorrow while I'm at work. We'll see what happens before I put them in.

I think there's different types of flagstone, but mine seems to be similar to yours. I'm pretty sure mines sandstone flagstone(?). From what I've found it's aquarium safe, but I'm a little unsure about the redness of the rock. If it's leaching iron I may reconsider putting it in my tank. Plants use iron right? So if I had a plant filter iron leeching may not even be a problem?
