i got a 125g and was curious if it was going to mess with my plants. i wanted a big centerpeice fish.

also...will it eat/attempt to eat smaller fish such as serpae tetras and cories

From seriouslyfish.com:

"It's not the best choice for a planted tank, as it will devour any soft-leaved species and even less palatable vegetation will probably be picked at. "

and:

"...Otherwise it's best kept as a single specimen in a community of medium to large fish. Suitable tankmates include other large characins, Loricariids, Doradids, peaceful cichlids, knifefish, arowana and freshwater stingrays. "

Doesn't sound like it would work too well, but I can't say from experience. Good luck!

Old thread, but I came across it when researching fish/planted tank compatibility.
Any new MFK experiences in the past 5 years? I'm looking for actual experiences, not copy/paste from theoretical articles elsewhere.
I found this from a member on our sister site AquariaCentral, looks promising.

Will eat soft leavefed plants will not bother small fish. I had a 13 inch specimen with fake plants that kept algae in check and never bothered any small tetra I had in tank with it.

I currently have a planted tank with a FF along with my Polys and Fancy Plecos. The plants I keep are Anubias and Salvinia. Doesn't seem to go for the Anubias and there's so much Salvinia that I can't even notice a dent in it.

Had my smaller (6in) flagtail in a 120g planted for awhile. Never bothered plants or small fish. Really the only thing I have seen a flagtail bother is another flagtail

Great input, thanks.
Would they go after Apple Snails?
