I have a little 4" Flagtail that has started to nip at my Rays discs, so much so that he is taking the skin off!
I have never heard of this before with Flags, is there anything I can do other than get rid as I really like him, not as much as the rays though.
I have put him into a tank on his own to let the rays discs heel up but no sooner is he back in with them than it starts again.

Very frustrated and annoyed, any advise appreciated.

Anything with that rasping style of feeding may be a problem...

Get rid of the Flagtail. He is feeding off of the mucous membrane of your rays. Some flaggies will and some wont. You just happen to have 1 that does. It has associated your rays as a food source and isnt going to stop no matter how much you feed it... Good luck...

Yeah thats what me thinks, justa real shame.
Anyway as we all love pics here is the little bugger

I love flagtails so if it was up to me, Id get rid of the rays...... But thats just my 2 cents....

yes as already stated. some do some dont, but once they start they 99% of the time dont stop so move it out and if you want one in there try a new one.

Yeah looks like I'll have to move him on.
Problem is they are readily available here in Northern Ireland, I got this one off a fellow MFK'er in England, and the air fare is through the roof to get fish sent here

Time to say gbye!!!!

i had that problem with my flagtail. when he reached 14'' he started to develope the taste for ray mucus and constantly harrassed it. tried adding bogwood and other tank mates in my tank to lessen the bullying. but, no luck. one has to go.
