Hello, gang. I need some help with my flagtails. I have studied them and it says on the computer that they are veggiterans. But I put in some tilapia for the catfish and they seem to eat it. They also eat cichlid gold pellets, and veggie flakes. Am I providing a staple diet?? I do feed lettuce every other day. Also is it true that flagtails lose their spottings as they get older?? One of my flagtails, the larger guy has a very cool spotting pattern. Also, I added another flagtail yesterday, ( my boss gave me him free... totally unexpected... but he was smaller than the other feifengs and they were beating the snout out of him) and this has seemed to make my flagtails mean. They are just chasing him and then when I turn the lights out they stop. Is their any way I can stop this?? The other 2 still shoal but when the thrid guy tries to they chase at him and nip.
-Alex
btw.... The 2 already introduced fei fengs are 2-3'', and the new guy is 1.5-2''.

Most characins will eat both veggies and meats so nothing to worry about, I know a species of brycon will eat fallen fruits from trees and pacus use their teeth to pop open nuts. And you have the species of Flagtail that are naturally aggressive to each other and need to be separated so I am told so I would just sell them off and keep one. And yes I do believe they start losing there spots as they grow, Truly awesome looking characin I got my LFS to try to order me one yesterday :headbang2

Thanks for the info... I'm going to keep an eye, if all hell brokes lose I'm going to keep the cool spotted guy! Yes they are a very cool characin. I'm sure your lfs should got them in soon. I've seen um pop up in distributors list as '' red fin flagtail prochidulis. But their only available at 2.5''-3'' for now.

If you wait too much longer and you'll be not taking any back, and you won't get to choose which one survives. When my trio killed the one I was going to keep they seemed to only bicker at feeding time and he showed no signs of damage to his body or fins, I think it was just the stress.
Mine eats massivore, shrimp, tilapia, and algea waffers, alot of times though he won't touch the waffers. Your diet seems good, you can add some uncooked peas with skin removed, raw zucchini slices/pieces, raw cucumber slices/pieces, blanched lettuce, and/or fresh spinach with stem removed. They're not very picky as you can probably tell;)

Thanks, sadly my lfs won't take em back and no one around me has room for a 2-3'' fish. All my friends have 10-20'' fish. I am just going to keep an eye and the minute I see real aggression besides chasing I will rehome 2. I am going to try peas and cucumbers now. So far the aggression has slimmered down and they are all eating now.

Well just get rid off them like ya did the pacu. I don't understand why you got a third one, your were previously told of their aggressive nature towards one another.

I could take them off your hands, I'll pay for shipping... You would make a person very happy :D

No I will not do it hat way. I didn't want to get a thrid one, but the lfs owner wanted me to save him from getting killed.

It'll cost a pretty penny.
