I have a pet store with a 2 inch flagtail for 35.00 and want to know how long I can keep him in a 40 breeder with 4 cory's and 3 silverdollars..also what do you flagtail owners feed him? is he a herbivore only?

I wanted to get some of these for my 75, but decided against it. Im only 15, and my parents would'nt have let me upgrade. It will take a while for them to grow, but at their largest size, a 180 would be perfect for them. They will eat small algae wafers, them only being two inches, and will peck them off the ground slowly, but not as fast as my old pacu. haha. Anyways, the are herbivores, and will DESTROY live plants. Also, try veggie flakes and try feeding him really chopped up carrots and peas with his flakes. They would love that.

There is no "them" with these guys. Only keep 1 per tank. They will be fine at first, but they will slowly turn on each other killing the weakest one. Until you are left with the biggest strongest flagtail. They are very methodical killers, yet seem so peaceful. Even my old 220 couldn't house 2 of them at 6"+. That being said a 40g breeder should befine until around 5" or so for a single flagtail with your current stocking assuming filtration and wc's are adaquete

...X2

I will add that these guys are great and that of you plan on having the space for one in the future, then go for it!

Algae discs as stated before will be eaten as well as high quality veggie based flake food and I'm sure vegetables as well. Don't be surprised of your flagtail starts slurping down blood worms if you feed them to your other fish; mine goes for them as well as other floating food my big guys eat.

thanks for the info guys!! im going to go and get him and keep him in the 40 for a little bit then my father is going to give me the big blue pond with a window in front its a 180 60l x 30w x 24h he bought a 500 gallon for his monster cichlids.I want this to be a peacful tank with flagtail, clown loaches and silver dollars
