Hello everyone

I’m planning stock for my new tank which is a large acrylic tank. The main attractions will be a group of Peacock bass, Pike Cichlids, Arowana, and Geoohagus. The tank will be a SA biotope tank with lots of wood. I want to know what kind of algae eaters would work with large fish in an acrylic tank and I came upon the flagtails.

The problem is that I will have several large amazon sword plants in the tank.

Has anyone with experience had luck with flagtails and sword plants coexisting without them eating the plants?

Are there any other recommendations that you can make for a large algae eater that can coexist with cichla and plants?

You should be fine with flagtails. They only eat algae and will not harm your plants. I have 2 10” flagtail and they never eat my plants, never. If anything they keep them nicely green and shiny. Or even a common pleco, they do a great job as well. They don’t look as good as others fancy plecos but they do the best job cleaning. What I’m trying to say is function over fashion.

BTW, love your new tank bro! So freakin jealous!

Thank you. I was hoping to hear real life experience. I’ll definitely get a few for algae control and to keep y wood clean.
