Has anyones snakes ever not striked but just hold theyre heads in the air with theyre mouth open and sort or sway side to side when feeding them? The second the rat touches his mouth he coils it etc same as normal. My borneo done this tonight and he usually strikes to kill lol.

Sounds very similar to the methods by which Garter Snakes hunt, I believe it's called side-swiping. My Garter does it, but not my Sand Boa, she slams her food like a train :D

My Dumeril does that and shes huge, its scary!

For me it's always been the other way round! My sand boas sideswipe when feeding, and my garters have always been more accurate. Wierd.

My eyelash vipers do what is called "gaping" where they will sit with their mouths wide open and sway to make them look intimidating but it is a defensive response, not a food triggered response.

Do Eyelash Vipers have brightly colored mouths? I know Water Moccasins, Mambas, Boomslangs, Blanding's Treesnakes etc gape as well, but they all have contrasting colors in their mouths.

it happens.

lol I found a garter snake not too long ago, never had one, but kept it to study for several days, saw that way of feeding how it chased food with its mouth open, and now see why some ppl are scared of snakes lmao. Glad my Boa dosnt do that.
