I am not ready to sell the pinks, the tails are on the verge of going red but not yet and dont want to sell till then. I do have about 6 sb pinks from the batch so these gene is recessive so just need to make it stronger.
nice i had a convict that looked just like that but he was infertile and died a few years later.
Well I hope these guys got some spunk in them, and also will try the females. They are still young to check so crossing my fingers.
As for the Barred Flame Tails I have separated them from my main tank and monitoring their temperament for my selection and will get my keepers this week and post whats available.
Well I am admitting defeat with the pinks, the tails just arnt turning red like the barred ones so I will be taking the standard bodied ones to the LFS as I know now the barred mom is the gene carrier and I still have her
So now I am at a cross roads with this project...
1) go after pink flame tails that will be short body
2) continue the barred flame tails line and try to make a short body version
I have a ton of short body pink stock (2xm 5xf) and about 5 from the failed batch that are unsexed. I have never seen a short body barred convict so I may continue that road and cross in sb pink blood and with any luck start chipping away at the length of the fish. I know some of the flame tails have the sb gene in them and they are not full size so will use them to breed.
I will be working on a 150g+ grow out for them (kiddie pool 6'x15") that will be indoors for future batchs.

Next generation fork is currently underway, the flame tail I have been posting pics has dug out some rocks and has paired with a short body pink convict which has a strong short body gene.

I will be bringing all my leftovers to the Socal meet so if you want some let me know. The colors are not as intense now so dont know if they are growing out of it or its due to the stress since I have been very busy and havnt gotten the ponds up yet. I will have around 10 or so and 10-20 pink convicts with short body genes. If you want some SB pink convicts let me know I can bring them with me but will be for $$$ also have around 3 2nd gen sb pinks so the gene should be stronger.
All the fish will be free but if you want to reciprocate and offer some fish or kick some some fish gear I wont hate ya
