I'm looking at getting a flash set up for general photography but more for shooting my planted tanks. I am currently thinking of getting the LumoPro LP160 which I am reading good things about with a set of cactus v4 radio transmitters.

I am wondering if people have had success with using an umbrella or softbox and which they might prefer for shooting their aquariums in particular?

Any comments or suggestions as to the equipment I'm thinking of or other equipment with the future in mind would be greatly appreciated.

There are plenty of discussions around the net about the LumoPro flashes. From past research, I would have to say go with Yongnuo flashes instead if you are looking to save some $$. Similar power output for far less. In fact, you could probably nearly buy 2 Yongnou YN560's for the same price. I have a couple and find them great. Just make sure you purchase the newer version with the metal foot. Here is a good read for you from the Flickr community(always a great resource when looking for photography info). http://www.flickr.com/groups/strobist/discuss/72157624375327693/

As for the transmitters. Most cheaper brands will do as long as it has a sync speed of 1/200th or higher and for diffusing light, it really depends on what you are trying to capture?

Thanks Greenterra. I pretty much forgot I even posted this thread. I have not pulled the trigger yet but am certainly leaning to the Yongnuo flashes and the new 303 triggers. In fact I think I will run off now and get that it the works. Can't wait to take some pics with tons of light. The results on this site are truely a testament to what some skill and good lighting can do.
