I have a couple bullheads--20 gallon tank, water is filtered through a setup I made myself consisting of a smaller tank, water is always CRYSTAL clear and I also run powerheads and do water changes 2x/week...in a few days I'll be moving from my dorm and want this sorted out before I leave.
Occasionally the bigger one will scratch himself violently against tank furnishings, especially the gravel. I've looked him over, he doesn't appear to have any external parasites, I've done skin and gill scrapings as well as cultures in my school's micro lab, everything has come out clear...
anyone have any idea what might be wrong? All water parameters are within normal limits. I do have some planaria floating around, but I let them be, they came out of the pond from which I pulled the fish and I consider them part of the environment.
The fish, by the way, are due for a tank upgrade in the fall to a 30gal.
