Hello--

I have a male juvie P. flavus that has stopped eating. He comes out when its feeding time, but the best I see him do is put the food in his mouth and spit it out. He repeats this several times and then goes back to his spot.

He used to eat and I use Spectrum cichlid pellets, so I don't know what it could be. I've had fish stop eating before--some died, but never spit the food out.

Any help is much appreciated. I would hate to lose this fish.

Thanks,

Does the fish hide? Is he picked on at all? Does he have stringy feces (generally white)? Many times when a Malawians stops eating and starts hiding more than usual, they have Malawi Bloat.

Yea, he gets chased, like all my other fish, but he is in good shape. No bites out of fins or missing scales and he even has good color (shows his stripes). He was sparring with a smaller green afra when I got home--so on the outside he looks healthy--but I never see him eat anything.

I'm familiar with bloat and he doesn't have that. He just doesn't eat. If I wasn't positive he was a male, I would think he was carrying. Not because of any look, but because of the behavior.
