What are the advantages/disadvantages of each for use in plumbing a sump? The obvious is that flexible pipe will be easier to do....one piece of tube for the drain and one piece for the return. However, is there something I'm missing? Is rigid better for some reason?

Rigid pipe gives a cleaner look in some cases and doesn't require as much strapping. Also, flex pipe uses insert fittings which reduce the flow, so a given size of rigid pipe will flow more than the same size of flexible tubing.

I have recently aquired: 2 - 100 gallon tanks, 2 - 40 gallon breeders, & 6 - 20 gallon high aquariums. I wanted to put all these on a super sump running a pond pump and was wondering if I could use felx for some of the more curvy and difficult portions as well. This thread has been very helpful.

You can use flexible PVC and get the best of both worlds.
