I recently bought an RO unit to soften up my South American tanks. My plan was to fill a 50 gallon barrel to have water on hand. There was no way I was going to sit around and wait fro the 100 gallon per day RO unit to produce the water so I purchased a float. When the float arrived it was missing a peace anf the manufacture sent me a new float. I thought that was a good thing! I set it all up and checked for leaks there didn't seem to be any and I left it to fill. When I returned to check it the next day there was water everywhere the float didn't float therefore did not stop the water flow. The float had filled with water. I was up set but had a second float I could replace the first with and carry on. I installed it after removing some water let water flow in again. After a few hours I could see that the float had floated!!! and the water had stoppped I was off and running!! Drained the barrel and let it refill left it for a day returned the next day and a lake on the floor again. The floated this time the fitting threaded on the the float. I tried a little teflon tape held up the float and still leaked I tried and tried and finally stopped leaking. I turned it on and thought what bad luck I have've having. I watched it closely for the next few weeks and everything seemed to oppurate fine. Then I let my guard down and..... water on the floor!!!!! Again the float ceased to float!!! Being a curious hobbiest I had already tore apart the other float. I found that it contained a chunk of styrofoam 1cmx1cm which would not float the float when filled with water and the float leaked water into into it. I increased the foam capacity and glued it together. Yes I did it I tried again I'm an idiot!!! now can't stop the leak at the fitting!!!!! Finally I give UP!!!!
