Float Switch Question

The float switches I have come across are rated for around 50 - 70 watts. I would like to install one in my future sump to kick my pump off should the water level get too low.

I have a Mag 2400 that is rated at 265 watts.

Are any of you using switches for higher wattage pumps?
What are you using?

Thanks in advance!!!

Just use that switch to activate a relay.

I'm pretty handy when it comes to house wiring but pretty much a newbie when it comes to electronics.

Do you have a link to something that would work.

I saw a set up on eBay but they wanted $70 for it. Ouch.

I'll try to find a schematic, but basically all you do is run a power line to/through the switch and when the switch closes, it will energize a coil which closes a circuit (that handles a higher load).
edit: Best example I could find but replace the batteries with AC.

Thanks, now I just need to find the parts I need. :)

Is this something I could get at Rat Shack?

Cool! Thanks, our plant has an account with Grainger. I'll have to see if my production manager can "order" me one. :)

With that one being normally open, you'll have to have a switch that will stay closed until the water level gets too low. Once the switch opens, it will break the connection on your pump power side and kill the pump. I would order 2 to have a backup because if the relay fails your pump will too (or you could install a manual bypass switch).
