After my problems at the weekend starting up my tank and flooding the room when the main tank managed to overflow due to the pumps being too powerfull for the drains. I feel i should add some insurance to stop this happening again. I know i can solve the problem of the pumps by adding T pieces so excess flow goes to the sump BUT this will not deal with the problem should the Durso stand pipes ever become blocked as my sump volume is so big that by the rime the sump water level has dropped to the level of the return pumps the main tank would almost definitely flood assuming that both Dorsos ever blocked. Is there any type of float valve you guys use that would cut the power to the sump pumps if the water level in the sump drop too low. I already have a drain in the sump that goes straight to waste but for noise reasons so can not use this as an insurance factor.

You could use a modified version of an automatic top off system to where when the water reaches a certain level (an inch or so higher than the usual level) the system cuts of the pump. The pump in the sump can be setup exactly the same as an ATO system pump is wired.

you need a float switch and a relay. you could also put a push button on it to start the pump so that if the switch does trip the pump off it will not restart until you push the button again.
