Whats a good floating cover providing plant other than hornwort. The needles on this stuff are the worst.

Had it for a while now and at first all was good. Then needles started dropping despite new growth

Duckweed is a floating plant although there are stories of people having to tear down their tanks to get rid of it. It grows fast, grows dense, and is hard to kill. I can back up those first two but I managed to kill duckweed several times when I was trying to grow it on purpose. I don’t know how.

Giant duckweed, frogbit, and anarcharis are others.
If you wanted to be creative you could get some vals and let their leaves cover the surface.
Pothos leave interesting roots in the water which can provide cover for fish.

Duckweed, water sprite, salvinia, and frogit are good choices.

Ive got duckweed and its not enough cover for whoever needs to hide in my 55. Is water sprite indian fern?

Yes. I believe it’s another name for water sprite.

Amazon frogbit will grow long roots, providing it is in a nutrient rich tank but it likes to be stationary and doesn't like to be crowded and may suffer if there's a bit too much flow on the surface.

I have used bacopa australis in various different ways, as a carpet plant in high light tank, as a stem plant rooted in substrate, and as a floater at the surface. It grew a 5 inch thick surface layer in one of my shrimp tanks in the course of several months when I left it alone...

Thats what im looking towards something just a little more robust than horwort. The duckweed gets netted out and the red lily doesnt provide enough cover. Just light blocking.
