First, hi all. I am new here. Not new to fish. Have had both freshwater and saltwater. Even raised baby seahorses once. Thats tough.
I am currently setting up a tank again. I bought a lovely piece of driftwood. Its a big piece and quite heavy. The problem I'm having is that it just keeps floating!!! I guess I thought as heavy as it was floating wouldn't be a problem...........wrong.
I would very much appreciate some input on how to anchor this thing. Its too big for a rock. I have searched the internet and haven't been able to come up with any ideas.
Any advice/info would be much appreciated.

THanks
Dianne

I soaked my driftwood in a big tub with a rock on top for three weeks. I performed water changes everyday and replaced with boiling water. Haven't had an issue with it since! also gets rid of all the tannins in the wood.

If possible, boil it. If thats not possible, fill the tub with the hottest water you can get. This will help get lots of the tannins out, plus IME it seems to waterlog the wood faster. You want to put rocks or some other weight on it to make sure it stays fully submerged, and let it soak for a couple days. after 2 days it should waterlog. If it still floats, you can always attach slate to the bottom. But I consider this cheating:D

Sorry, forgot to say I had had it soaking in water for almost a week. Only thing I haven't tried is boiling it. I really wouldn't have gotten this piece if I would have know it would be this much trouble. First piece of driftwood I have ever bought, and probably my last!
Thank you for your replies.

Any driftwood I have dealt with I have had to anchor down with fishing line and rocks.

I drill a very small hole in the driftwood and then attach fishing line around a rock.

If your driftwood is very heavy, you may have to anchor in several locations.

Don't get discouraged, I'm sure it will look great in your fish tank :)

Guess Ive gotten lucky..all my store bought driftwood sunk immediately. The stuff from the beach or rivers can be a pain in butt. Good advice above, just gotta get it water-logged.
