Hey guys,

I have a 180G (6X2X2) with a center overflow. It has three 1" holes on the bottom. Two are for drain and one is for return. I'm using a Rio 32 HF return pump. The 1" return is T'd off into two 1" return. My question is, how does anyone keep floating food such as pellets and sticks from going into/towards the overflow. I've use pre filter wool to block off the overflow from debris going in there, but now the wool is full of pellets and sticks which is a pain in the @$$ to clean ever so often. Does anyone have any technique they use? Thanks for any help or suggestions...

I modify koi feeding rings and use them in reverse. I cut out a section equal to the width of the overflow and notch the ends to hang them in the first end slots. Now floating foods stay outside the ring and suction of the overflow.

awesome idea!! I'm going to have to give that a shot.

I just turn off my sump pump and wait 5 minn. untill the water drains below the over flow and then feed the fish with the wet dry filter system off. When the fish finnish I trun the pump back on. This does nothing to solve you problem of food getting into the overflow or the teeth of the over flow, but if nothing else works or until you find a solution that works for you, this may help.:)

wouldn't this change the flow of the drain? :screwy: i would go for feeding ring... i also have a 180 gal on the finishing side almost done to put inside the house. :)

i do the same.. i just turn the knob to stop the flow back into the tank. water level goes down in the tank where it doesnt flow into the sump and floating dry shrimp goes in the tank.
