floating hydrometer

so I was finally able to find a hydrometer for my gsp tank...anyway I have been slowly acclimating him to brackish but my hydrometer never seems to change...I have this kind

maybe i'm just slow but I left the foam on it...was that just there for shipping purposes? I have seen pics of them without the foam on it...please, break it to me gently

I need to get me one of those :d
I hate the normal ones because the stupid bubbles lift the needles.

And I would think what harm does the foam do? Leave it on unless it specifically tells you not to.

well i took em off and realized that the foam totally screws with the buoyancy...needs to be taken off! I threw out the packaging so I wasn't able to read it haha silly me
