Hey I'm wondering if the styrofoam lids from fish shipping boxes are fish safe to float in my tanks thanks

Styrofoam is safe in fish tanks as long as it hasn't been exposed to any chemicals.

Styrofoam lids from fish shipping boxes should be OK. Keep us posted I'd like to see what it looks like when finished.

Thank you both was thinking strawberry plants not sure I have enough light though fishroom is in basement and don't want to purchase lighting

From a quick search anything were you eat the leaves can be shade or low light ex. Lettuce

My thoughts where cutting holes in styrofoam lids with hole saw drop in plastic pot and clay balls for substrate

Do some aquaponics/hydroponics research. I'm pretty sure most of the "floating" set-ups I've seen have no substrate at all, just small holes drilled in foam to get roots in and out of. Best of luck! Looking forward to the result. Been thinking of doing something similar myself.

They aren't really big, and could be sown together with fishing line.

Rooted 12 pothos in one lid didn't take long at all did the poke a hole with a pencil slipped cutting through styrophoam with about a half a inch sticking out
