HONORURU, HAWAII!
is there anything to worry about with floating poop?

oscars poo floats, diet is cichlid staple. used to be cichlid gold but i bought staple because its cheaper and figured the floating would stop due to less protein content in the matter.

fish are all healthy and eating frequently. any input is much appreciated.

mahalo!

here's something else ive been wondering about:
some times when i come home to my fish, it looks like theyre floating dead in the tank.
-pectoral fin @ surface of water, tail and head pointed towards the bottom of the tank.

...do they play dead? i prod them on the side and they magically snap back to life. i dont think thats how oscars sleep either, so was just wondering.

mahalo again!

Yeah, my oscar's poop sometimes float and I give him hikari gold and occasional freeze dried krill, and some guppies about once a month. I know that oscars are very dirty fish so you have to do water changes pretty regularly..how often do you change yours?

Then only time I ever see my guy laying is usually after getting full, but other than that he stays pretty active..I have seen many other oscars just kinda lay on the bottom before...I think its pretty normal for them:)

Oh yes, they float. I've had some floaters, nothing to worry about. Oscars sulk and I 'think' that is what he is doing but keep a close eye on him. They will lay on the gravel from time to time.

whew, thanks a lot guys!
theyre REALLY interactive and personable. i love having them :)

chicklette, i realized after you said "they sulk" that the ones that ive found floating are the 2 non-alpha fish..so it makes perfect sense. sulking that they arent the alphas lol..

and mac, i change about once a week or so depending on how busy i am lol. that, or once it starts to get cloudy.

my tanks dont get much sun like they used to so changes are really important. i learned that even slight algae bloom can do some good for the water chemistry.
