Last Friday my wife started a load of laundry and left to do some errands. We used to try not to, but with a new baby and both of us working it's hard not to. When she got home at 5:00, the washer was overflowing and the house was about an inch deep in water. :WHOA:

The washer had gotten stuck in the 'fill' cycle and was flowing around 10 GPM of water over the top. Somewhere around 2400 gallons of water flooded the house. The heating ducts were all completely filled with water and the underfloor insulation was soaked. I was lucky enough to spend Memorial Day weekend pulling out wet insulation, .91 tons in all! :nilly:

Inside the house the trim has all split, including one corner of my aquarium stand. The vinyl in the laundry room and bathroom needs to be replaced, but the worst part is the hardwood floors. Our whole house is done in Oregon White Oak - I installed it and had it professionally finished. They will need to be torn out and replaced.

The only real bright side is that I will be upgrading my 135 to a Marineland 220! :headbang2 I have been wanting to do it for some time, but the tank is plumbed under the house and moving it is going to be a major headache. Now that I have to move the tank I finally will get my 220. :grinno:

Eek! Congrats on the new tank though, just in time for summer vacation!

Yikes, it was very tragic reading your post. I'm glad there was at least one positive thing in your post. Congrats on getting a new tank. Your current stand stands looks fantastic minus the split.

So you decided to go marineland instead of aga? Either way good choice. Sorry about the accident.

Yep, I'm going with the Marineland tank. A couple reasons:

*30" tall instead of 29", bigger = better!
*Corner Overflows - I think they look better than the All Glass overflows
*Return plumbing included - the Marineland tank comes with dual returns, each with two LocLine outlets. This was the clincher - I think it has a much cleaner appearance.

The AGA tanks are nice, too, but I like the Marineland tank a bit better.

My brothers washing machine did this 2 months ago, they had to replace every floor in the house, sheetrock at the bottom of the walls, baseboards, furniture, cabinets. Around 30K worth of damage. His house is on a concrete slab so no where for the water to go except out. There was about 6 inches of water when he found it.

All of your monster tanks and it was the washing machine that flooded you.
My wife and I lived in a basement apartment that got flooded by a storm while we were still in college. This has to be 100x worse. We just got to move into another apartment and they just gutted the old one. You have to fix it all while you are still living there.

With summer break coming up, are you going to have extra time to work on it all?

Wow, that sounds even worse than our house! I think the sheetrock is going to be OK, but we won't know for sure until I start to pull off the baseboards. I think ours will be a bit under 30K (thank goodness for homeowner's insurance!), I'll know what the total is going to be once I get a couple more bids from contractors.

I know, I'm really glad it wasn't the tank, I have a feeling my wife wouldn't be so keen on a new tank if it was an aquarium that had destroyed things...

I'm going to start tearing out the wood floors tomorrow, we're going to have to live on the decking for a while. Once they start installing the new floor we'll have to move out for 10-12 days. :( Luckily I'll be on summer break, I don't know how we would manage otherwise. :screwy:
