Florescent lights.Good or bad? Im Looking into getting a Jebo Tank for my planted tank... The LFS told me they use 40wats each and they are florescent, But reading over the "Planted Aquariums For Beginners" page i read that compact florescent are better then florescent. I thought compact meant they where just smaller? O.o or are all Fish tank using compact florescent?

Compact fluorescent bulbs have only one end, and are more compact, but per watt they output the same amount of lumens. Standard T12 lights are only decent at best. If you want a mid or high light setup, then you need to switch to PC at the minimum. For high, you would need a ridiculous number of T12s to get enough lumens. Read the other sticky that is about the downfall of WPG.

Just as i was done posting this, I found a article on what they are... And i have them all around my house, I was just lost for a second. How can i tell if the lights are even Good enuff for what im looking for? and how can i go about upgrading them to a little better for the plants. Change out ballst?

Personally, I hate the all in one systems. I like to change up my tanks. I am going to be dropping my PC hoods, and upgrading to the HO T5 hagen line. Going to sink a few hundred into it.
