Florida and spotted gar

No.
One is lepistosteus oculatus, one is l. Platyrhinchus. Very similar though.

OK thanks that's what I thought but I wasn't shur. I I here people call the Florida gar a Florida spotted gar alot

florida gar and florida spotted gar is a same fish [Lepisosteus Platyrhincus] im sure they call florida ''spotted'' gar cause they have spot on the body.
but florida spotted gar[Lepisosteus platyrhincus] is definitely different with spotted gar [Lepisosteus oculatus],same genus but difference species.

Far as I can tell these days "two-eyed dark oscillated techno cichlid" can be a Florida gar these days. I would not put much faith into common names of unidentified fish.

At this point, the only real way to differentiate Florida and Spotted Gars is through identifying where they came from and/or which hatchery they were produced.

I do know that some guys here at MFK have noted that there are some physical differences between the two species, but generally speaking, if it is sold as a Spotted Gar in a Pet shop/Fish supplier, it is likely a Florida Gar (Lepisosteus Platyrhincus).
