Hi everyone, I'm getting a bit worried about my gar. Here's the situation:

Not eating since he jumped
I’ve tried both live food and frozen, no luck.

He’s not staying in his usual spot after jumping

Instead, he's hiding behind driftwood or in corner

Water parameters (all good)

Physical condition seems fine:

Slime coat looks normal

Eyes are cleari,Fins look healthy, Gulping air as usual, just he is getting slim

Despite all this, he’s still refusing to eat and behaving oddly. I'm starting to get really concerned.
Has anyone experienced this before? Any suggestions would be really appreciated

Was that fish always "giving you the finger" with its nose? Or is that something that has only been seen since it jumped?

Sorry, but that fish's condition absolutely does not seem anywhere near fine IMHO. Looks as though it landed nose first on the floor and did some serious damage to its head. Not sure what can be done if anything; thebiggerthebetter thebiggerthebetter wednesday13 wednesday13 might have input?

What Finger? If you are talking about the snout, it was it's birth defect & btw what is the reason you are saying it doesn't look fine , cause all the possible things like colouration , slime coat getting white , eyes getting cloudy, breathing heavily, blood coming out , not swimming properly like getting upside down or something , I haven't seen anything like that , only when I released it in the tank there was some blood mixed with its slime coat which within 5 minutes got cleared

😳 yikes… if the fish really was born like this and made it this far i wouldn’t be too worried. Ive have gar go on hunger strikes for 1-3 months and snap out of it. Theres usually a cause tho like temp drop in winter, female with eggs in spring or lastly stress. Most likely from the jump trauma. Was the catfish recently added?

Based on looks alone in ur last/current pic id say theres plenty of food options for it swimming around at least so it will feed itself when it wants too. That face sure is hard to get past tho 😬. Owned plenty of deformed fish in my day that got on just fine but the angle of that snout looks like its hard to eat. IME gar arent too great at catching feeders in the first place. You should try shrimp or cut fish on feeding tongs to help him out a bit. Even a live feeder on tongs would work.

I used to feed him through tongs initially for 4-5 months, currently I show him I got food & drops it & he eats it
That's albino irredesent shark , I added it 4-6 months ago, tho once it grows bit more I will remove it
There are mollies, rosy barbs, boneus tetra, giant danios , few albino corry ,1 big fat loach , 3 blue gouramis ( a shopkeeper recommend them as he said they are active & smart enough to survive)
