Hi everyone, I am looking at getting a florida gar but haven't been able to get all my questions answered. My wonderful local pet shop has some "baby gar" which I have positively identified as florida gar and they claim that I could keep one in a 40 breeder tank for quite some time. I'm not sure if I entirely believe them and would like some input as to how fast the fish will grow. Right now they are at about the 2" range maybe 2 and a half.

THANKS!

For growing the fish out that may be good for about a year (Maybe less maybe longer). You have to keep an eye on the fish and judge when it needs to be moved up by the individual fishes growth.

put him in a tank with enough room to turn. the width of the tank being about double the size of the tank( to prevent from broken back). and just upgrade when you think he is ready. and as richard said just keep and eye on his growth. and also keep in mind that every fish is different.
