Florida Gar growth rate?

whats there growth rate b.c iv had a florida gar for 2 years and few month,it grew from 4"-16",is that a normal growth?

Pretty close. They'll hit about 12" in their first year, but then growth really slows down after that. I would think 4" in the 2nd year would be pretty close to what you could expect.

my gar recently started too grow since i moved it too the 150 and how big do they max out? 20"?

i think it is like 20-24" not much more from what i have seen...got a pic? my florida is like 12-13" now starting to go black underneeth, hows yours look?

no picture right now,but its getting darker in color in my brown barebottom

mine went from about 1.5" to 16" in less than a year. he is now bout 16 months and is just under 17". it grew very quick but now it has slowed greatly

Wow, you must've been power feeding big time? Mine are around 13-14", I would guess. They don't add length very quickly any more, but they've packed on a lot of girth. My shortnose gars, which are much younger, are getting close to the same length, but they're about half as thick, if that, as my Florida gars.

could have a female, they grow faster and longer then males...i just saw that the record florida was over 50" long...

my shortys are longer but not really thicker. yeah i was power feeding. 4 dozen a week, at least. lol. alot of fish!! and yeah mine slowed on length(1 inch in 3 months).

yes, it's alright. lower end of average would be right around 14", high would be somewhere ard 18", so 16" is fine.
