I know this is might be difficult to answer due to factors like tank size, diet, how often it is fed, etc. However, can any of you guys give me an average growth rate for the Lepisosteus platyrhincus?

I am looking to upgrade my tank (72x18x24) here within a year to something bigger (96 x 36 x 25). I was curious as to if I purchased a FL. Gar that is around 4-5 inches, would he get to big for my current tank over the next year until I purchase the upgrade.

you should be fine for the next year with a fish that size provided you are ready for the upgrade (on the schedule you mentioned). FLG's rarely reach 18" in their first year in captivity, so you should be good to go. if you do get your proposed upgrade tank, a FLG should be fine in there for life. good luck!--

Nice response. I too was wondering this.

as Solomon mentioned, you would be ok. check out the captive care guide for more general info, & get back to us if there's anything else you need clarified!
