I'm looking for general info on keeping these fish, saw some in a store and they see interesting, just want to know more about them before i make a move i will regret...

they are a great fish! get to be about 2' captive and do very well w/ tankmates. i keep mine at right around 80 degrees. they will eat just about anything. however they do require a pretty large tank at adulthood. so unless you have plans on getting a much larger tank they may not be the best idea...i only say this based on your signature. if all of this sounds good then i would go for it! good luck and hope this helps!

Yeah, this guy would be going in a 75 if anything, so i'm guessing i better hold off, bigger tanks in the future hopefully, until then i guess it's just waiting.

how big is the florida now? i had mine in a 75 for a while, but i knew i was getting my 180 for sure and will be getting larger sometime. if you are not getting the large tank in the near future i would suggest waiting.

they would be fine in a 75 for atleast 8mon
if there really small like 4"

but yeah you should wait till you get a bigger tank :D

new tank not in near future unless i hit a great deal, which is unlikely, and the gars at this place are both over a foot long. so it looks like i best look for smaller fish. they are really interesting and thanks for the advice guys.

no problem. it's nice to see some responsible fish keepers out there that actually listen to peoples advice.
