Florida gar new behaviour

The title says it all. My gar has been acting funny for a few weeks . His eating slowed way down ever since I put garnet sand in my tank. Now, he mainly chills at the bottom unless I feed the tank. Then he stars following my ornate like in the video. Water parameters are as good as ever. No ammonia no nitrites and 5-10 ppm nitrates. Tank is on a drip system.

I personally wouldn't worry about it unless the Florida Gar started to bite the Ornate.

It's just that he started doing this as he stopped eating. That's what kinda worries me

Parameters are stable. Nothing has changed. The tank is on a drip, so pretty stable.

what was the substrate before the garnet?

Nothing, bare bottom. He has been raised in a bare bottom tank. He will turn three this summer
