Florida Gar Progression

Thought It would be fun to show the growth of a Florida. Thanks for looking

^ At this point it was hard finding live food small enough even roesy reds were pushing it. I used feeder guppies.

Super bad pics. At this point rosy reds were able to fit in their mouth. Not bothering any of the the fish.

When these Gars are small, is it normal for them to be quite skinny (even if they are often fed)?
Will they all grow fat like that as they get bigger? I've never seen a large Gar that is skinny.

Very small gars will often appear thin except right after feeding. They should fill out as they put on some inches.

You will see slender adult gars more often in the wild. They get fat easily in home aquaria.

ifish, i agree with madding on this one. captive gars have much more fat content compared to their wild counterparts, but that's not to say large, wild gars aren't girthy.

great looking progression thread! i wish i had the oppourtunity to do this with some gars.
