What are your opinions on a 9" Florida Gar with 4" - 5" clown loaches in the same tank? The gar is supposedly very calm but would it see the loaches as food?

i'v owned 2 gars in the 10 years of keeping fish, and every time there was a smaller fish in the tank, it would end up eaten.
They'd be fine, i have 4 inch pbass in a tank with a 16 and a ten inch Florida. No problems at all.
I have 5 clown loaches 2"-5" and there should be no problem. Sometimes you'll be surprised what fits in there mouth but most often common Logic will prevail. If they don't look like they will fit they wont

If it's smaller than gar, irrespective of fits in mouth or not. It will end up in gar's mouth.
Loach will be injured at minimum.
Learnt from early experience.
Believe it or not my bass hang out with the two gar. My gar never bite anything but a silver dollar. They cant resist the silver color lol. But you are right, even if the gar tried i doubt they could catch the bass.
it's not working for me. Mine spoted gar kill small fish. I don't have this luck.
