Hey guys I like to use salt in my WC. I have research several threads but I only have found the proper dosage of unit of salt per gallon for ICH, HITH, cuts, scrapes and others health issues. However I would like to know the Dosage for prevention of the parasites to use during my WC. Right now i am using 1tablespoon per 10gallons. What do you guys think?

True Gars / Catfish require no salt. I use the ratio of 1 Tablespoon per gallon in two tanks that I run as sort of a "sub-brackish" mix colony tank(s).

I can keep species that are on opposite ends of their salt requirements.

I keep the Needlenose gar in this mix along with Belonsox, Florida Flagfish & Freshwater Flounder.

Interesting thread. I don't have gar anymore but when I do w/c they are abotu 50% and my 180 and 50 I add a small cup of salt which would equate to about 3-4 teaspoons. I guess that's about half of what is recommended for use in treating a disease or ich. It seems to work just fine and althuogh I've actually only had a parasite one time, when I added more salt and cranked the temp I had no problem getting rid of the parasite.

Yes i know they dont require it to live but i add salt to prevent outbrakes.

Thanks Creepy, Thank you both for responding.

i dont even have 1 per 10g. prob 1 per 20. 0 ich(a gar with ich is already dead, they dont get it unless they are in horrible condition) 0 parasite(that im aware of) 0 health problems at all, unless i dont do a wc for awhile. then cloudy eyes and peeling. so i do frequent WC, obviously. lol

I just got a TSN came from a pristine tank however has cloudy eyes. owner said that it was due to the tank being to small for him. I am just trying to clear it up.

Just use salt as recommended and keep the temp up. Do plenty of water changes and add salt as neccessary. After a few weeks if it doesn't clear up, then I would worry.

the tsn shouldnt be with the gar so it shouldnt be an issue. and cloudy eyes isnt a tank size prob it is a WQ issue

the tsn shouldnt be with the gar? Why not? what Parameters do i look for with trying to solve the cloudy eye problem? My WQ i excellent and i have been treating him with salt but see no results.
