Could CA cichlids survive a Florida winter in an outdoor pond?

Depends. Where in FL? Depth of pond? If filtered, how much thermal gain off the pump?

possibly, in FL a lot of em live in canals. sometimes I read u could have a cold spell and there could be a die off

Central Florida close to the gulf coast. A little over a foot deep. Naturally filtered. I'm not completely positive but I believe the lowest it gets on average is around 35-40

If you cover the pond with greenhouse film you shouldn't have a problem getting cichlids through the winter.

Here's a thread showing various pond covers. Pretty simple and inexpensive to do.

I would say you'll have to enclose it to keep temps in range up there.
