If you are throwing away your floss pads your losing alot of you bacteria to keep the tank cycled unless you have a separate container for the bio media.

My floss pads are years old, I run on a well so I just rinse them (not super super clean) in the shower. If you have public water, put some of your tank water (which should be conditioned with prime etc) into a bucket. Then swish around and squeeze the junk out. Dont expect it to come out super bright white new clean, its ok to have some tinge to it. Just get it to where water flows through it again and ur good as new.
