Hi there, was just wondering if anyone has any info on flounders for beginners? like sizes and compatability... i was planning for possibly my 30 gal just now... as juveniles.. .the as they grow move them to my 100gal tank comming in the autum... any idea, smallest flounder? also any pics please? thanks very much!

I have several flounder right now, in a freshwater tank. ( I do keep a tablespoon of aquarium salt per five gallons.)

The flounders have been doing very well in these conditions. They scavenge the bottom, and I see them eating bloodworms. Most of the time they are hanging out sucked on the glass on the side of the tank. Other times you will see them swimming (its really neat to watch!)

They dont bother any other fish in my experience. They are very sensitive to loud noises and vibrations in the tank, as well as you cleaning or scooping out other fish. Everytime I close a drawer below them they freak out and dart across the tank and bury themselves in the gravel.

If it counts, my mom thinks they are ugly. My girlfriend's mother, however, must have 7 of them in a tropical tank with various fish. She just keeps buying more (and buying me more!) Women :screwy:

Pics follow....

I just caught one identical to the one in your pic in the St. Johns river this weekend, which is brackish. i have added him to my salt tank and he seems to be doing fine. my question is though, will he continue to do well or can i expect him to do worse and worse as times goes on?
