I have a light for my tank, it takes a 18" or 24" single flourescent tube, what are the best light bulbs I can use for reef or marine. its the only bulb on a 29 gallon SW

If I only have one bulb, what is best? I will some day try my hand at low/medium light amobebas, I believe its a T8 size, I see 10k, actinic, 50/50 and 20k varietys
~ confusing

a standard floro light isn't going to work for anything but mushrooms.. even then they wont thrive.. just barely survive

Depends on what you are hoping to house. There are softies like mushrooms and Zoanthids that do not require as much lighting as most other corals, however, they still require a significant source due to their dependance on zooxanthellae, which is photosynthetic. Your best bet would be to buy a strip which housed at least two bulbs where you could go for a good 10,000k + a 6,500k 50/50 w/ actinic.
If you can't, I would say opt for a 15,000k for a single.

Iam actuall researching lights myself fo a 29g mini reef.. personall i have come to the conclusion iam going to buy a new light fixture.. lam looking at copact with 2 bulbs plus lunnar...i dont feel safe with MH with small kids and cats and all iam doing is low to med light level beginers corals and saltwater plants(greenery/algea)
