in my shark tank
If i have 2 2"drains on a tanks how many GHP will that deliver if its just gravity fed. I have a 600 gallon tanks and it has 2 2" drains going into the overflow and i have 2 external pumps that pump oout about 5000 gallons per hour. I am not sure if the drains will keep up with the pumps. Any advice?

ok but i just read that a 1" drain will handle a max of 1000gph so it would make scence that 2 2" drains would hold 4000 gph? so one of my pumps would be fine.

size _GPM __GPH
1/2 = 2.50 = 150
3/4 = 5.63 = 337.5
1.0 = 10.0 = 600
1.25=15.6 = 937.5
1.5 = 22.5 = 1350
2.0 = 40.0 = 2400

well this is for pvc, if you plan on using the same thing.... No a 5000gph pump would be to much for your drains either way. Your overflows need to be pushing more water than the pump.

for instance my overflow does 2400GPH. Its a 2inch drain... my pump does 3400gph but after head loss and a ball valve i have it to 2320GPH and my overflow just keeps up with it enough. I am fully utilizing all of my flow.

ok i just looked up on dolphins website and the pump runs about 4000 gph at 6 feet so i think my 2 2" drains will be fine for the pump if i use your 40 gpm mer drain and i have 2 drains that are each 2" that would be a total of 4800 gph right

i have 2-2" drains on my pond and my 4200 gph Dolphin pump keeps up with them but i dont have alot of drop to the sump so my flow would'nt be the same as someone who could go straight down which would be creating more suction
