My 220 (6x2x2.5) I aquired from craigslist only has 1 overflow. It is 1" and I used a "Mega overflow" kit for the plumbing. The tank came with a danner model 7 pump. It works fine, decent flow but....I want more. First things first. My tank sits at 5' of head on the dot. The return is 1/2" with 2 elbows. I have no idea how old this pump is or if the flowrate is depleated from the original numbers. But my overflow handles my pump running and me adding water with my python cleaner. With my setup what is the biggest pump I could get away with, or should I just get a new model 7? I plan on eventually switching to the darkside and converting it to saltwater when we remodel our house and sinking it into a wall. If/when that happens I will get the other corner drilled aswell, but that will be awhile.

I have a 65G with a Mag7 and 1" megaflow kit but I use 3/4" for the return to the Display Tank. The Mag7 is too small for that size drain @ 60" head. You might want to go up to a Mag9.5 or Eheim 1262.

If you do decide to shop for a new pump, these guys have very good deals on quite a variety of pumps:

I think I am going to order a mag 9.5. I just wanted to make sure my overflow could handle it and I wasnt wasting my money. Anyone disagree with this?

Ok I am getting ready to order a mag 9.5. I just wanted to make sure that it will be ok. I dont really want to add a ball valve or anything. If anyone has an opinions I would love to hear them.

i can find flow charts for the pump with head loss, but i cant find one for the overflow, all i find is conflicting information
