Flower Horn Aggression

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
they can be! most of the time u will find they will try and own the whole tank.

however they seam to work well if you have a community tank full of flowerhorns and PLENTY of hiding places. but dont be suprised if there are deaths.

But each fish has its own personality, so u might get lucky. But statisticily your best keeping it separate or getting a better suited community fish. :)

If you see my 150 gal growout tank, you would be surprised what fish you see in there with my 6inch male. You also gotta be aware that Flowerhorns have their moody days and will go on a massacre, so it's good to have a lot of hiding space.

best kept with other large cichlids if you dont want it alone
oscars midas and the like

Flowerhorns are best kept alone but they can be kept with larger cichlids that are aggressive, Oscars will most likely be troubled.... Flowerhorns will definitely haress small fish like loaches... As the flowerhorn grows he will start showing his true aggression and may harm fish that are smaller than him..

If you do plan to keep a flowerhorn with other fish, be sure to have a back up plan..

P.S the people who say that they keep flowerhorns in community tanks, are heading towards fish disaster.. the most docile flowerhorn will become aggressive when he realizes that he can bully other fish...
