Been sometime since my last post, what are your thoughts on a bonded pair of flower horns successfully breeding with an arowana lurking about. The Male FH and aro have been great tank mates for about 6months and have just introduced the female FH last week.

My personal thoughts would be a bigger tank for the arowana, looks a little crammed?

Should post that video on go fund me and see if people feel sorry enough to get your aro a bigger tank lol. If that was my fish he would be in a stock tank or something.
Your set up is awesome for the flowerhorns though. Not ideal for fh breeding with aro.

Once the flowerhorns start breeding they will attack your Arowana and he'll have nowhere to run, especially in that tank.

On a much smaller scale I had an 8 inch juvie silver Arowana gutted by a pair of tiny 1.5 inch convicts that I thought were too young to breed. I was wrong. I think the same scenario would play out with your larger flowerhorns and Aro.

Is this a common issue? I would like to set up oscars with the intention of breeding them - and pop an arowana (or 2 if space permitted). The tank will be 2x1x1m. Say I get the oscars to breed, is an arowana automatically a gonner is not moved?

Yes it is a common issue, many cichlids become quite aggressive during breeding, I agree it would be taking a big chance to keep an Arowana in there (esp. as they're quite skittish when younger) if you're attempting any such breeding. But what would be your intentions with the fry if you do get the FH's (or Oscars) to mate? Esp. with the FH's your chances of getting any really nice results are very slim at best, which means you'll likely end up with a tank full of fry that nobody wants (except as maybe feeder fish).

On a related note, some people can get 2 Arowana to live together ok, but it also frequently comes down to serious blows if not death as one tries to establish dominance, better to have 3 or more but of course then you'd need a bigger tank.

So, I have studied the floor plans of the house. I have a 420x120cm area in the sitting room I can put the aquarium. Problem will be natural sunlight (it is bang beside the French window, tucked in the corner). If statics permit, my maximum size is 400x100x100.

Oscars and arowana or hardcore discus biotope? My wife is pro discus...my heart is with the first mentioned...

Honestly, what is best? I would love arowanas and oscars but I want to breed oscars - arowanas will I fear not be breeding in that size - and a possible death sentence for.my arowana is no option.

I have multiple years experience with fishes, including discus but not with arowanas...so, help, I need somebody *sing*
