this is a question to anybody who has mature flower or tiger rays and has preferably bred them.

my male flower ray is about 17" across and his claspers have started uncurling. what i would like to know is wether flower and tiger rays claspers are proportionately smaller when mature than say a motoro. i ask this as all the pics i have seen of mature male flowers/tigers the claspers are not noticably visible from above unlike motoros. likewise retics have very large claspers in relation to size.

experienced comments only please!

Would also be curious to know this from any breeders. I have 2 male tiger rays around 20" and 3 years old both of them have there claspers unrolled but are still smaller. I just figured they weren't mature yet but I thought I remember reading somewhere that a member in singapore had bred flowers at 2.5 years old.

Bump! Are there no serious/experienced ray keepers using this forum at the moment. Someone from Europe or Asia must be able to answer this for me and skynoch.

Question to skynoch. How long and how uncurled are your tiger rays claspers?

I would guess around 2.5-3" and unrolled as much as any of my breeding males.
When my males first mature I see there claspers take a big growth spurt then stop and unroll and then grow again. This is when they seem to breed is after the last bit of growth so I just assumed there was some more growth to go but maybe there done.

Exactly the same as mine. The claspers were really small then suddenly grew to about 2 to 3 inches. And they are almost as uncurled as any mature/breeding motoro. My flower I have had for 18 months and would guess is 2.5 to3 years old.
Thanks skynoch for the feedback.

Bump again.
Asia or Europe come on! Someone must have an opinion at least.
Anybody with large flower or tiger rays?

my flower is bout 18". his claspers are fully rolled and yes they are consideably smaller than those of a motoro would be for a motoro of that size.

My breeding age/size male tigers had claspers smaller in size when comparing them to the motoro over even other brown or black rays. A lot closer to my breeding jags.

thanks guys, that is the answer i was looking for. my 17" flower is in with a 15" female motoro so i just wanted to know when i was going to start watching out for her getting harrassed/beaten up.
