I have a 9" male flower ray. he eats chopped canadian night crawlers, and blackworms, live ghost shrimp, and frozen ghost shrimp (occasionally). I want to get him on ANYTING else, but particularly krill, silversides, supermarket shrimp, and smelts. Any ideas on how i can get him to switch? he is in a tank all by himself and is a good eater (on what he likes). i never had any problems with my motoros... they learned to eat everything right away. any and all advice would be much appreciated!! thanks!

there is a thread on breaking rays to new foods.. search for it has plenty of great tips...

Flower rays can be tricky sometimes. Just make sure you fatten it up well and then attemp it. It took quite awhile for mine to switch over. With flower rays I wouldn't reccomend the starving method for any great lengths of time. The best way is to be feeding nightcrawlers till it's fattenned up. Then chop up the nightcrawlers into about 4 pieces each and add a little minced shrimp to the mix. Let sit in the fridge for half a day and then feed. If it starts eating the little bits of shrimp slowly add a bit more to the mix and a little less worms. If it doesn't start eating the shrimp skip feeding every second meal to the flower. This process may take a few weeks but should work out fine. Some people have tried the starving method with flowers and have had them not start eating again. It was tried with my flower first till it's hips were showing and it just refused to eat anything else but worms.

ill try it! anything is better than going through $3 of night crawlers every 2 days!
