Fishing in Wisconsin
I just moved a bunch of fish from one tank to another and I added my flowerhorn to the bunch. all of the other fish were living peacefully together. He has lived alone all of his life, but now he's chewing on everything in the tank. He's in with 4 huejeta gar, an ARTC, and an Irradescent shark.

I know, a bit over stocked for a 55, but that's where they're gonna live until my 125 is ready for them. The flowerhorn is about 6".

My question is will he continue to beat the crap out of everything in the tank or is this just him testing his surroundings?
I'm pretty confident that when the lights go out tonight that 12" ARTC is going to exact some revenge on him for shredding his tail.

Thanks for the input.

hahaha, yeah, that artc will have the last laugh as long as the flowerhorn doesnt kill it before then. Usually fish that live on their own their whole lives are going to be pretty intolerant of tankmates. How big are the other tank mates, gars arent really aggressive enough for cichlids unless they are large.

FH's are very hard to "re-socalize" after being solo for extended period of time. this issue will probably go on, and on, and on... till you give him a mate, or he is the last.

Like a female FH of the same size??

yup
but you will have to have a divider setup at hand before you try

i wouldn't get a female his size... get one somewhat smaller, but not to small to not "give" back what she receives. also be sure to get a divider for the first introduction. don't just throw her into "his" tank and expect a good outcome. divide them first.

I find FH's to be solo fish... Unless its a REALLY Big tank. Mine will kill ANYTHING I put in his tank... You need to move him asap if you want to keep your other fish imo..... Good luck.

i have the opposite of your problem, i had to get rid of my JD's because they were beating the crap out of my FH. he now gets bossed around by my GT who is 1/4 of the FH's size. did i get a whimpy fish, or because he has been raised with others he will be less aggressive?
