My flowerhorn is close to ten inches long...He is in a 55 gallon tank by himself...He has good filtration. ..has a hydor 600 and aquaclear 50...I do 25 percent water changes with gravel vac weekly...I use prime as a conditioner. ..

Issue is this...Two months ago ammonia was going crazy...a combination of aquarium bacteria stabilizer, prime, and large water changes were used...The ammonia is currently below .25ppm. Pretty good for a large fish...problem is that every water change and prime dose...dropped ammonia...but has now left Me with crazy nitrates...

Question is...how do I drop nitrates...and how can I get a real nitrate reading if prime is recommended every time I add water...and prime then gives false possitives...

I can stick with water changes and prime..and hope for the best...and did have no problem with this except for yesterday he didn't want to eat...and this morning doesn't seem to be hungry... he ate a noticeably larger amount of food last week...is he still full?

Lastly my Dempsey...I was worried he would jump out of tank...He had basically no top before...just a light above him...He does not like the versa top I got him. ..is there a reflection at the top of the tank that wasn't there before the top?

Going to make a video of him not eating

so give the water changes about a 3 day break then test water. if tank is not cycled yet then continue to do water changes either daily or every other day. try feeding blood worms, a small amount, the fish may be "constipated" also try to feed flakes

Hi ascarbo! There was actually food in tank in vid...but I will show myself drop it in...he doesn't do anything. ..ignores the food and then splashes at it...If I leave it in the tank...lol

Let me also clarify. ..he will eat...just very little...Also I am trying to fast him
...As I believe he is constipated
