So I recently added a male flowerhorn into a female flowerhorn's tank. They are separated by a clear partition. I wanted to breed them because the female often lays eggs but she lives in the tank alone. Unfortunately the female began attacking the partition trying to fight the male on the other end. The male only flares is gills back at her. I removed the partition for a minute just to see if this was breeding behavior but it was clearly just aggression. The female now has a red lip from attacking the divider too much.

Should I pursue breeding them or is this female simply too aggressive to breed?

for starters what is the size of the fish? also maybe keep them divided till she gets used to him being in the same tank. I used to put really tall fake plants in front of the divider so they will fight with the plants when they charge the divider.

just give them some time to adjust. and you may get that chance to breed them.

^^^^ I agree It takes a whlie to get them to pair off Might be a while to get that male ready. I takes Patience.
