so i recently took in a friends male zz to breed with my female. I have had them in 100g seperated. My question is when i take out the seperator are there any signs i need to look for? I tried taking out the seperator tonight and the male would not stop chasing the female and got pretty physical so I seperated them. Is it normal for the male to be aggressive at first or will they get to their business right when the seperator is taken out?.....thanks for the help

No, sometimes they will chase eachother as part of the" mating" ritual, but if they are physical hurting eachother try separating them again and let them get use to eachother , then try again in a few days.

my male rips scales off my female he just to mean. i keep trying tho

If they are ready usually the male tail slaps like crazy and starts to dig. You have to really beef up the female so she can take the males agression. Also try dithers they keep the 2 occupied from each other and makes their bond stronger

The male is mostly willing to breed, the issue here is your female(although this is not always the case here). Most male will show that they will breed by slapping tail with a dance and trying to dig.
As for females, if they start to swell up. Then you know they got eggs and want to breed. But, if you got a female that is already filled with eggs, then your best bet is to let them condition with each other for at least a week or 2. Let them go at it, if it failed. Restart the process...good luck.

What I did was cut a opening in the divider just big enough for the female to get through. Hope she is not bigger than the male or this method won't work. She will enter the male side when she its ready...i hope that works for you.... It did for me..good luck

thanks for all the help, I have one more question though...If the male accepts the female and they become a pair, will they remain one or will i have to seperate them again after the breeding process is complete?

Never trust a male with a female. If they successfully bred for you I'd leave the female to raise the eggs and remove the male. Males usually won't tolerate tank mates for a long period of time.
