I have a flowerhorn cichlid that was given to me by a friend.
This fish had been kept in an unlit 55 gal in the back of his store for a few months now with some other smaller cichlids, been eating the crap food that the store has, and pretty much has been the last kid picked. They were going to euth him, but I said I'd take him while I found a new home for him.

I'm not a big cichlid person, and well, this guy isn't exactly pretty, though I think alot of that has to do with how he'd been kept for the last few months.
I also have some other fish in my 110gal that he hasn't shown any agression towards, but I'd rather not leave him in there and see what happens once he's a little more adjusted.
Anyone interested in him? He's about 14"-16" long.
I live in Hartford VT, but can travel anywhere in NH for the price of gas.
I wouldn't mind keeping him, but would like some advice on what to feed him to help himj color up.

doubt theres much you can do to help him color up. color usually comes with genes. he may be a lot more mellow for the fact that hes in a bigger tank. mine was a complete PUNK in my 150 but is the most gentle fish in the world in my 400. if u wanna try to increase color tho, go to any lfs that has the color enhancing pellets made for fh n try that out.

get alife they are pellets designed to enhance flower horn colour specifically

ok then...next question. what "Type" of flowerhorn would you say this guy is. he has no "flowers" on his side eccept for a tiny little splotch towards the end of his tail. there is some red in his fins that you can't really see in the pics, and he turns yellowish when he's flipping out at his reflection.

he is a low grade FH.. not sure there is a certin name for it. I would agree get some alife but i dont think it will help much maybe get him a little brighter

feeding them a pellets with enhancing colors will no use at all without UV rays. If you really want his true color then put him where there's a visible to a light rays of sun if it is not visible then you might purchase penn plaux aquarilux fluorescent bulb or light that have a UV rays and turn it on about 6 hrs. after having UV lights, pellets with enhancing color might help. happy breeding!!!

The only advice I could give u is that you should feed him pearl flower horn feed or blood parrot pellet food and keep him under a coralife trichromatic light

i doubt that he is a ZZ, because if he is, his dorsal and anal fins should have very long tails by now.
his mouth is also a bit too small for a ZZ.
his fins look very thick.
I think he is an old school kamfah.

they're right. you should still try feeds with astax like ALife.
