Anyone that has Flowerhorn, How big do they get?? What size tank do they need and what species do they do best with??
My LFS had 1 that was 3"-4" big, do they grow as fast as Oscars???

As far as i know, they grow between 12 and 16 inches. I've heard many responses regarding their tank size and am wanting some clarification myself. I have heard that one can be kept in a 40 gallon, as they are inactive swimmers. They are best species only tank with one specimen per tank unless you have a huge tank with many hiding spots and places to establish a territory. Many people separate specimens using acrylic so that they dont fight but can still keep more than one flowerhorn in their tank. Not sure how fast they grow.

I think most people recommend a tank that is at least 18" wide. We just got a flowerhorn last weekend and he's currently in a 55g (12" wide), but he's only about 3" at this time. I won't be surprised if we don't have to move him to a 75g in time. Ours will always be housed alone.

I was thinking of getting a flowerhorn for a while and for 1 fish you do want at least 55gal. One fish can live comfortably in 55gal it's whole life.

In terms of tank mates.. most likely you won't have ANY. That's partly why I didn't get one. If you have a big tank that you can stock heavily with lots of hiding spots, you have a better chance of low aggression, but often you can't even keep a male and female together due to aggression issues. Though I was told if you wanted to attempt having multiple fish, get them both as babies or juveniles and they will be more likely to get along as they age.. but that's not a guarantee. Always have a divider on hand JUST IN CASE.

That is good to know about the 55g. I don't have room for a 75g where I want to keep the flowerhorn (living room)... so I would love it if he can stay in the current 55g (alone) forever :)

55-75g but preferably the 75g they grow about as fast as oscar but are alot more agressive
